Dresser from the Dumpster

Technically, this dresser wasn't pulled from the dumpster, just the side of the road thanks to my ever watchful sister and bro-in-law.

It's a pretty hum drum dresser, but I was really excited about the how it framed all of the drawers. This piece screamed "two tone!" I gained inspiration from the desk that I did for my house. I got a lot of comments on my blog post about this desk and it was even featured on another website.

I used the exact same color scheme. A soft sagey green with white drawers.

I painted the original hardware because I thought it stuck out like a sore thumb.

I also glazed the framework and drawers. But, instead of using my customary dark walnut stain, I opted for a more subtle provincial...which is like a golden oak. It was just enough to give some texture and depth to the color.

The drawers have faux lining already in them that looks like vintage newspaper print.

It's the newest piece for Furniture Friday and is available for sale!

  1. I am loving this piece. It turned out great! Did you remove the hardware to paint it or paint it right in place? I have always hestitated to paint the hardware the same as the piece but this really looks great! xo Diana

    1. I painted it right in place. It's really nice to eliminate the removing hardware step in the process!

  2. This is so the color combo and it is distressed perfectly!

  3. I'm speechless! I can hardly believe this stunning transformation! Kudos to you. : )

  4. Gorgeous! This is my first visit ... I am curious ... What do you do/think about the possibility of "inheriting" Bed-bugs with your side-of-the-road or thrift finds?

Is there something that you do to treat the furniture to avoid this potential problem?

    1. I've never thought about the possibility of bed bug guests. Granted, I get a lot of spiders from furniture stored in garages. I clean everything before I paint it and give the drawers a good cleaning and I've never heard of anyone or myself having problems with it...yet. One thing you can do if you suspect any kind of insects living in the wood is wrap the entire piece in plastic and leave it outside in the sun. The heat will force them out of the wood and they will die in the plastic. But, I am pretty judicious about what I pull from someones "trash" and inspect it before it comes home.

  5. Wow! What a transformation! This would be a perfect project to link up at our "impossibles" party today! Stop by and link up!

  6. The faux lining in the drawer looks vintage newspaper print which I love. This just made me want to distress every single furniture I have at home.
